Ghana Scholarships Secretariat Inaugurates Audit Committee to Strengthen Accountability and Transparency

In a significant move to enhance oversight, integrity, and accountability in the management of scholarships, the Ghana Scholarships Secretariat has inaugurated its Audit Committee in accordance with the Public Financial Management Act, 2016 (Act 921) under the auspices of Alex Kwaku Asafo – Agyei, the Registerer.

The establishment of this Audit Committee marks a major milestone in ensuring that public resources allocated for scholarships are managed efficiently and transparently. By adhering to the provisions of Act 921, the Secretariat reinforces its commitment to upholding strong financial controls, preventing mismanagement, and promoting value for money in the administration of scholarships for Ghanaian students.

He stated unequivocally that the Audit Committee is expected to play a crucial role in financial oversight, ensuring that funds disbursed for local and foreign scholarships are used equitably and responsibly. He charged the committee to provide recommendations for improving financial governance,mitigating risks, and strengthening internal controls within the Secretariat.During the inauguration ceremony, officials emphasized the Secretariat’s dedication to transparency, accountability, and good governance. In the course of the inauguration, he reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting Ghanaian students in accessing quality education through well-managed and sustainable scholarship programs.He believes that this initiative will aligns with the broader public sector financial reform agenda, aimed at fostering efficiency in public financial management and ensuring that scholarships reach the deserving beneficiaries without any financial irregularities.

The Ghana Scholarships Secretariat remains committed to working with stakeholders, including the Ministry of Finance, the Auditor-General’s Department, and other oversight bodies, to enhance trust, credibility, and effectiveness in the administration of scholarships.This step underscores the government’s resolve to prioritize education, invest in human capital development, and uphold accountability in public service delivery.
