President Mahama examines Inspects Ofankor-Nsawam road project, calls for its rapid completion

H. E. President Johnn Dramani Mahama has tasked the contractor on the Ofankor–Nsawam road project to finish the construction on time, warning him that the government will hold him to the June 2026 deadline.

President Mahama made this statement on Wednesday, September 3, while inspecting continuing construction on the important thoroughfare.

Because it links Accra and Kumasi, the nation’s two biggest cities, President Mahama emphasized that the project is essential and that delays have resulted in severe hardship for passengers and raised questions about financial management.

“A loan was taken for this project and I don’t understand why the money is finished and the project is not over,” President Mahama stated.

“We are now having to pay an additional 78 million cedis from government funds. We need to find out what really happened, whether the estimates were wrong or something else went wrong.”

The President was pleased to see that traffic flow had improved in recent weeks, but he asked the contractor to give good site management first priority in order to minimize the inconvenience to drivers as construction moves forward.

“So we will hold you to your word. You say by the end of the second quarter next year, you should be finished,” he cautioned.

With GH¢14 billion allotted to the Big Push program this year and another GH¢30 billion anticipated next year, President Mahama said that the contract has been put under the government’s Big Push initiative and that there will be enough funding to support the contractors.

“As the government commits to pay you well, you too must commit to move faster on the road and also use quality materials,” he stated.

“Your company is one of the well-known road construction companies in Ghana, and so we hope this project will reflect the quality of your brand” the President stressed.
