A road accident at New Somanya in the Eastern Region has claimed one life, leaving several others in critical condition on Thursday, October 2, 2025.
The incident involved a Hyundai H100 with registration number GR 5063-18, carrying 18 passengers. Victims were rushed to the Yilo Krobo District Hospital for emergency treatment.
Medical Superintendent of the hospital, Dr. Francisca Darkwah, confirmed that one passenger was pronounced dead on arrival, while another has been referred to the Eastern Regional Hospital in Koforidua for further medical attention. Some of the victims with minor injuries have since been treated and discharged.
Eyewitnesses say the accident occurred after a tyre burst, causing the driver to lose control when he attempted to apply the brakes.
Police are investigating the incident.
