Six people lost their lives in the stampede disaster at El-Wak Stadium during 2925/2026 military recruitment exercise.


‎ A tragic incident occurred this morning at the El-Wak Sports Stadium in Accra during the 2025/2026 Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) recruitment exercise claiming at least six people lives.

According to an official statement from the GAF Public Relations Department, a sudden rush of applicants attempting to enter the venue led to a stampede around 6:20 a.m., before the scheduled start of screening activities.

The unfortunate event resulted in the deaths of six prospective recruits, while several others sustained injuries. The injured individuals are currently receiving emergency treatment at the 37 Military Hospital in Accra. Medical teams are reported to be working around the clock to stabilise all affected persons.

The Ghana Armed Forces expressed deep regret over the incident and extended condolences to the families of the deceased, assuring that efforts are underway to contact next of kin.

In a statement signed by Captain Veronica Adzo Arhin, Acting Director General of Public Relations, the GAF reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring the safety of all applicants and promised to provide further updates as investigations continue.

According to Damak Media further checks, about twenty-one thousand prospective recruits were expected to report at the El-Wak Sports Stadium in Accra for the screening exercise which led to this unfortunate incident.
