A mother of three aged 42 and her children have reportedly died in a galamsey pit at Wassa Dunkwa in the Amenfi West Municipality.
The accident took place at the Galamsey site on Saturday afternoon when the family went to fetch firewood. According to an eyewitness who was interviewed by Green Gold FM/TV, they occasionally visit that site to collect dried cocoa trees as firewood.
The disaster happened after the kids took the initiative to get firewood, abandoned it by the side of the road, and chose to swim in the water-filled pit. When their mother realized her kids were drowning, she decided to save them. Unfortunately, she couldn’t save them but also drowned with them.
The Asankrangwa Divisional Police came to the scene and took the bodies to the Catholic hospital in Asankragwa and are been keep at the morgue for an autopsy to be conducted.
