Chief of Staff Pledges Support for PIAC’s Oversight Role in Petroleum Revenue Management

Chief of Staff Julius Debrah has assured the Public Interest and Accountability Committee (PIAC) of the government’s readiness to work closely with the Committee to promote transparency and accountability in Ghana’s petroleum sector.

Hon. Debrah made the pledge during a high-level meeting at the Jubilee House with a PIAC delegation led by Vice Chair Edward Yaw Afriyie.

The Committee used the courtesy call to emphasize the need for stronger state backing to enforce accountability in the management of petroleum revenues.

Sources indicate that discussions focused on closing accountability gaps, improving compliance with existing petroleum revenue laws, and strengthening institutional coordination to safeguard public interest.

PIAC, mandated to independently monitor and evaluate the use of petroleum revenues, reiterated its commitment to transparency while stressing that its effectiveness depends on the responsiveness of government institutions.

The Committee’s push comes amid growing public demand for clearer reporting and visible development outcomes tied to the oil sector.

Observers view the meeting as a strategic effort by PIAC to secure firmer political support as it intensifies scrutiny over Ghana’s petroleum resource management.
