I am Not Involved In Illegal Mining: MCE Disputes Allegations of Using DRIP Machines For Galamsey

The Municipal Chief Executive Officer of Dunkwa-on-Offin in the Upper Denkyira East District of the Central Region, Hon. George Anane Coleman, has vehemently denied a wild allegation made against him in the municipality regarding illegal mining.

The wild and daring allegations suggest that the MCE is using the District Road Improvement Programme (DRIP) machines to engage in illegal mining in the municipality, prompting the MCE to respond to the allegations.

The Municipal Chief Executive Officer, Hon. George strongly denied any involvement in galamsey. Describing the allegations as “baseless,” “politically motivated,” and “damaging” to his name intends to undermine his credibility and leadership.

According to him, his administration has actively supported H.E. John Dramani Mahama’s government efforts to curb illegal mining in the Municipality. Hence, he would not in any way condone and cooperate in any illegal mining activities to impugn the integrity of his government after the president strongly cautioned MMDCEs against illegal mining.

“Linking my name to illegal mining with the intention to downgrade my person, is rather unfortunate and undiscrebable for such information to be circulated on social media”.

The emphatic tone of denial was notable and it reflected not only personal frustration but also the high stakes involved…because, the regional Minister constituted a committee to suppervise the reclaimation of galamsey pits of which he brought payload truck and other equipment. Due to the nature of the road leading to the ghalamsey sites, the load bed truck battery caught fire and the front left side tires got burnt. In order to ascertain the authenticity of how the load bed truck got burnt, some farmers within the incident area confirmed to the media that it was the carelessness of the driver that led to the burning of the truck.

Hon. Coleman reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring that the president pledge to combat illegal mining activities is paramount and will go all length to support the president course in the Upper Denkyiea East.

He averred further lauded the Denkyirahene, Nana Boa Amponsem III for his overwhelming support in the reclaimation process. Adding the Minister’s decision to send back the machines to the Regional Coordinating Council (RCC) will hamper the reclaimation exercise and appeal to the Minister to revise his decision so as to help them reshape the lands that have been degraded by Chinese nationals.

“The well-being and health of my Municipality is paramount and will pressed hard to facilitate a resolving measures to mitigate any illegal mining activities”.
