Six people, including a toddler, perish in Abuakwa Manhyia’s midnight fire outbreak

 

 

An apartment at Abuakwa Manhyia in the Atwima Nwabiagya South Municipality of the Ashanti Region caught fire and killed six persons, including a toddler.

The fire broke out around 12:30 a.m. on Monday, December 22, 2025. The cause is not yet known.

The Assembly Member for Abuakwa Manhyia, Evans Opoku, confirmed the incident, saying he received the report shortly after electricity was restored to parts of the Ashanti Region following a temporary power outage on Sunday evening.

He said the victims were trapped inside the apartment when the fire started and were unable to escape.

Firefighters from the Nkawie and Twedie stations were dispatched to the scene and managed to bring the blaze under control.

Police have since identified the charred bodies and conveyed them to the morgue. Investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of the fire.

Atwima Nwabiagya South Municipal Chief Executive, Wisdom Osei Boamah, has been informed of the incident as authorities continue their inquiries.
