GJA honors Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II for promoting democracy, peace, and the galamsey fight

 

The Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) has showered high praise on Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene, acknowledging his significant contributions to democratic principles, peace, and the ongoing battle against illegal mining activities, commonly known as galamsey, across Ghana.

This distinguished honour was bestowed upon the revered Asante Monarch during the 29th GJA Media Awards ceremony. The prestigious event took place on Saturday, November 9, 2025, at the historic Manhyia Palace in Kumasi.

During the ceremony, the GJA presented a special citation expressing its deep appreciation to Otumfuo for graciously hosting the awards. The gathering saw the presence of distinguished figures, including President John Dramani Mahama, who formally presented the citation to the Asantehene.

The 29th GJA Media Awards celebrated journalistic excellence, with 27 individual journalists and 7 media houses recognized for their commitment to responsible reporting.

The GJA specifically commended Otumfuo’s unwavering dedication to fostering peace and stability within Ghana, particularly in his resolute stance against the destructive galamsey menace. The Association highlighted that the Asantehene’s proactive engagement has been crucial in amplifying awareness regarding the perils of illegal mining and championing sustainable development initiatives nationwide.

Furthermore, the GJA expressed its satisfaction with Otumfuo’s decisive action in destooling certain chiefs within his kingdom who were implicated in illegal mining operations, underscoring his commitment to upholding the law and protecting the environment.
