The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has confirmed in a press statement that an escort convoy safeguarding civilians was attacked by unidentified assailants in Binduri, located in the Upper East Region, leading to the death of three civilians.
In a statement confirmed by Captain Veronica Adzo Arhin of the Ghana Navy, Acting Director General of Public Relations, the military reported that the incident took place on Monday, April 27, 2026, when a convoy carrying approximately 140 civilians from Bawku to Bolgatanga was attacked with heavy gunfire.
The attackers reportedly fired several times at the convoy, resulting in the deaths of three civilians and injuring one individual.
The military, on the other hand, reacted and thwarted the assault, resulting in the deaths of seven assailants during the engagement.
“In the process the military successfully repelled the attack on the convoy, resulting in the death of 7 assailants,” the statement said.
“In pursuit, the military discovered and retrieved from an escapee who went to a mosque, a G3 automatic rifle, 2 filled magazines of 20 rounds each and 176 rounds of additional ammunition,” the statement noted.
Ten additional suspects have been apprehended and are now helping with the investigations.
The Ghana Armed Forces advised the public to refrain from engaging with security personnel during operations, emphasizing the need for collaboration to maintain safety.
The military expressed sympathies to the families of those who died and hoped for a swift recovery for the injured.
