A man and his wife (Bright Ashiao, 26 and Abena Benewa, 24) have been arrested at Bontrase in the Awutu Senya West District of the Central Region for allegedly beheading their three day old baby boy and dumped the body on a refuse dump.
According to reports gathered, the baby was found dead with the head, and the left hand chopped off.
After the body’s body was discovered on the landfill, the localist searched the community and discovered that the 24-year-old Abena Benewa had given birth at home but lost her baby. The traditional birth attendant informed her the unfortunate happening, and arrangements were made to bury the body. Bright Ashiao, the 26-year-old father, arrived to pick up the child, intending to bury it himself.
During further interrogation, the husband went to bury the baby at the same location where the body was later found.
Some community members have alleged that the couples may have planned to use their child for money rituals, although police are yet to confirm.
The Assemblyman for Bontrase Electoral Area, Hon. Prince Larbie confirmed the sad incident and also expressed concern that some youth in the community are increasingly engaging in money rituals and other criminal activities.
Furthermore, the Awutu Beraku District Police Commander, Chief Superintendent Edmond Nyamekye, said suspects are currently in the police custody and will appear before court in no time
